Merry Hanukkah from the White House!
The president and the first lady invited leaders of America's Jewish community for a Hanukkah reception at the White House next month. The message reads that the first couple "requests the pleasure of your company at a Hanukkah reception," written beneath an image of a Clydesdale horse hauling a Christmas tree along the snow-dappled drive to 1600 Pennsylvania Ave.
A close look at the wagon reveals the message "White House Christmas Tree 2008."
I am not religious at all, but I find this pretty insulting. Not because of the mistake, but because of the complete lack of care either idiot is showing in their waning days. How would the fundamentalists that so love the Bush family feel if they got Christmas cards with a menorah or dradle on it? Messrs. Dobson, Wildmon, O'Reilly etc. would not be happy. They take the symbolic nature of Christmas and religion pretty seriously (way too seriously). Hasn't American Assrag Bill O'Reilly railed on and on about schools and municipalities "canceling Christmas."
I guess if you cancel Christmas, you can just substitute Hanukkah according to the White House.
The White House staff is not supposed to be some 2 bit operation. (then again, this is the Bushes who have run every business they have been involved with into the ground). Besides paying trillions of dollars to own Citigroup and Fannie Mae, we the taxpayers also pay ridiculous salaries for hundreds of employees under the WH protocol team to not make mistakes like this.
Jewish community leader Isaac Abraham of Brooklyn had an explanation. "It's obvious what's going on here: The Christmas tree is being taken out of the White House and the menorah is being brought in the back," he quipped.
I am glad Mr. Abraham finds this a big joke - it isn't. It is totally reflective of how little America's sociopaths George and Laura Bush really care about the feelings of anyone other than themselves. With 52 days to go, you would think they would at least give the appearance of doing some things right, at least the easy stuff.I should know better, these are Bushes, thinking is not part of the genetic make-up.
What the fuck are the two of them doing anyway? It is not as if they have (or care about) any economic crisis going on. George, who since September 15 has basically given up being President, is very busy holding a press conferences to announce the pardoning of turkeys. Laura is all tied up shopping around her White House memoirs - which should be called "I Was A Teenage Boyfriend Killer."
When reached for comment, Laura Bush's spokeswoman, Sally McDonough, said the White House usually prints separate cards, but in the waning days of the presidency, there had been an oversight. "Mrs. Bush is apologetic," she said. "It is something that just slipped through the cracks."
Yeah, the crack of her shit-filled ass.

i'm not religious either, and i am highly insulted! the white house is all about protocol. nothing leaves that place until a thousand eyeballs have examined it. the fact that this invitation went out means that the chimpy white house has no fucking respect for anyone who isn't christian. should we all send him christmas cards with a crescent moon on it? how about a pentacle star? remember how the powers that be were not too keen on putting the symbol on the wiccan soldier's headstone?
i bet they would have noticed if someone accidentally put up a giant spaghetti monster instead of that behemoth of a cross that was present for jenna's wedding. would they have dismissed that as just something that fell through the cracks? fuck them!

Nonnie – I so not religious and normally would laugh at this – but you are SO right – the White House is ALL about protocol. They wouldn’t serve the wrong food to a world leader like pork to a Saudi or Israeli. In my office – we always have 3-4 sets of eyes read all important letters and correspondence. Mistakes like this share a lack of caring. Sally’s dismissive apology only makes it worse. The whole Bush clan is one giant bunch of fucking assholes.

Have any of you ever heard a Jew actually use the phrases in normal or even casual political conversation "Judeo-Christian" or "Judeo-Christian values"?
This is important to me to know because I've lived half of my life outside the US. Outside I have never heard it spoken by anyone. Inside the US, it's very common political language, but I've never said it myself and I've never heard another Jew use those phrases.
